An Uwan is an extremely secretive spirit that enjoys frightening people by crying out during night, often causing the victim to faint in terror - for a long time the Uwan were envisioned as near-invisible creatures known only by their cries but eventually varied artists started to depict them and they became more traditional yokai, often envisioned as supernaturally ugly monsters lurking around corners, waiting for their next victim to stray too close.
