The Upland Trout is a creature which draws its origins from turn-of-the-century North American pioneer folklore.
Description[]
An unusual type of fish said to be found throughout Alaska, the Upland Trout is actually afraid of the water and prefers to live on dry land, making its nest in the highest boughs of trees instead. It is capable of flight, although whether the Trout possesses actual wings or not is open to debate.
Whilst the Upland Trout was undoubtedly the product of the lumberjack tradition of practical jokes, they were stated to be absolutely delicious when cooked and eaten, and thus many new immigrants or less outdoorsy-types would fall for the trick and spend hours hunting for these fictional creatures.
