a Tenome is a type of monstrous ghost from Japanese folklore that is depicted as an old man with eyes on the palm of his hands - he is often blind and pursues victims via supernatural smell, capable of pursuing them great distances.
When a victim is captured a Tenome will proceed to consume their bones, leaving only a formless mass of skin behind.
The Tenome are regarded as either members of the yokai or as a manifestation of a blind monk who was beaten and robbed, in his dying moments he angrily thought on how if he could only see his attackers he could exact vengeance - in death his spirit turned into a Tenome to do just that, though since he never saw the men that killed him his ghost will attack any that come across it, assuming them to be the robbers.
