Swarms are small, bulbous Necromorphs that appear in Dead Space 3. These creatures appear to be sacks of necrotic flesh that walk about on four spindly legs and, as their name suggests, usually travel in groups.
Swarms fulfil the role of spreading the Necromorph contagion, replacing the Infector, Divider and Swarmer forms. They create new Necromorphs by burrowing into dead bodies and triggering reanimation, turning the host body into either a Slasher or Waster. They will only infect corpses that are mostly intact and will ignore corpses that are dismembered. Like Swarmers, Swarms will attack the living by crawling all over a victim and forcing their way into the body in order to take it over.
