Spooky is the titular character and main antagonist of the indie horror game Spooky’s Jump Scare Mansion. Spooky is the ruler of the eponymous Mansion that the player explores throughout the game and is responsible for most of, if not all the things that occur inside it, including the Specimens.
Powers and Abilities[]
Spooky is believed to have a large amount of power over the Mansion and its inhabitants although whether or not she has any limits is unknown, like other ghosts, Spooky can move through solid surfaces. Spooky also wields a large Bowie knife and is implied to have created some of the Specimens including Specimen 1, Spooky also shows some work ethic since she ran GL Labs although she had the scientists do all the work and allowed the Specimens to attack them. Spooky is also capable of eating things as shown in art for Karamari Hospital.
Appearance[]
Spooky is a small ghost girl with light blue skin, black oval-shaped eyes and long dark blue hair. Her body is pretty much round and simple, Spooky also wears a tattered baby blue dress and noticeably lacks legs.
Spooky wears a nurse outfit in New Game + in Karamari Hospital which is composed of a white cap and a pink gown which is most likely to fit in with the theme of the hospital.
Spooky’s second outfit is a red Grim Reaper-like cloak that is supposed to be reminiscent of the Masque of the Red Death by Edgar Allen Poe.
As a human, Spooky looked the same and had long blue that was positioned differently in her ghost form as well as a pinkish-white knee-length dress and small white shoes and pink socks.
History[]
Background[]
Spooky was once a young girl who enjoyed scaring people but was irritated by the fact that people thought she was cute rather than scary due to her appearance, on Halloween night, when Spooky lit firecrackers near a mentally disturbed war veteran, the man shot her to death due to his PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) kicking in with her later being sent to Karamari Hospital where she died.
Spooky was brought back as a ghost by her troubled father to see her one last time using a device called the Hellgate although he also ended up summoning some of the Specimens, later on, Spooky’s father was killed by one of the Specimens or by Spooky herself with Spooky taking over his facility but was a horrible boss who allowed the monsters inhabiting the mansion to kill her employees with several people later coming to the mansion and dying from the Specimens, dehydration or starvation.
Upon the Romantic Victim’s return as a ghost, Spooky met him, was annoyed by him and threatened to take his pen away for not doing his job.
Spooky’s Jump Scare Mansion[]
Spooky serves as the antagonist of the game who challenges the Protagonist to go through all 1000 rooms in her mansion and escape without being killed by any of the Specimens. She first appears in Room 0 where she first meets the player and later appears in Rooms 500 to 750 where in 500, she appears annoyed and sarcastically wishes them good luck and in 750, she tricks them by giving them fake infinite stamina so they could be easier to kill.
In Room 1000, Spooky appears once again to the player in a simulation after the “sky” crashes clearly being upset that they managed to survive everything, just as she’s talking however, Specimen 9 roars from offscreen cheering Spooky up in the process who states that the historian would have to defeat Specimen 9 before they leave.
In the Good Ending, if the player uses the axe for self defense then the roof will fall down on both the player and Specimen 9 but the player returns as a ghost who Spooky says died in a tragic way thus becoming a spirit, Spooky then reveals numerous ghosts in a room and appears on a large screen stating that she now has enough ghosts to invade humanity and to prove that ghosts are scary once and for all.
In the Bad Ending, if the player uses the axe on the Specimens and the Taker too many times then Spooky will appear to them congratulating them for their excessive violence she then says they’ll be a good Specimen just as the player is shown to have become a new Specimen: an insane maniac whose entire body is blackened with a reddish hue and whose only prominent features are its red eyes with it wielding its bloody axe behind it as it’s seen walking in a hallway.
Karamari Hospital[]
Spooky is shown after the player’s elevator crashes saying that she wasn’t aware of any other rooms in the lower level of the mansion and lets them look around the hospital, Spooky later tells the player that the hospital is much bigger than she thought it was and wishes them luck yet again calling them a “recruit” before vanishing a second time, the player would later discover a note by Spooky’s father that is shown nearby the Demon Girl after escaping from Monster 5 which reads that while Spooky’s father could hate the man he could only hate himself and that he can’t really blame the man due to his mental illness, She appears for a final time telling the player that they forgot to look for something in the hospital but she bids them farewell and leaves once again.
Endless Mode[]
Spooky herself does not appear although notes written by her could be found.
Spooky’s Dollhouse[]
Spooky shows up once again in the starting area of the Dollhouse after the Protagonist takes the Winding Clock Key from the storage room, after greeting them she’ll say that she had long forgotten about the Dollhouse and leaves to go check on something else, she later appears in the Great Hall once the player gets the GL Labs Keys. She lies to the player, saying that she moved all the Husks by the door out of the way when in actuality, she blocked it by placing their goopy remains directly in front of the door, leaving them to contend with the dolls. She later appears for one last time in the Seal Chamber telling the Protagonist to leave, if they don’t then Spooky will say that nothing is for them there and once again pleads with them to leave and leaves afterwards, it’s also revealed that Spooky’s father was the one who shot her albeit completely accidentally as seen in his nightmares.
If the player gets the Good Ending then Spooky is freed along with her parents and the other souls and is finally reunited with her family, ascending to Heaven, ending her pain for good.
If the player gets the Bad Ending of the Dollhouse then Spooky is still freed but all the evil spirits escape into the world, dooming it in the process.
Trivia[]
Spooky notably holds her knife in her left hand which is a hint at her murderous tendencies and true motives as left handed people were commonly considered evil in older times.
