In the Metroid universe, Splinters are a race of large insect creatures native to the planet Aether. Encountered by Samus Aran during the events of Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, the Splinters could be found in the Luminoth Temple Grounds. They live inside cocoons and emerge when other creatures venture into their territory, going into a state of frenzy and relentlessly attacking the intruders with their sharp-edged limbs. While certainly vicious, Splinters are not very strong and can be easily dispatched by any of Samus' weapons.
