Skarlet

Skarlet is a character from the Mortal Kombat video game series. She is a native of Outworld who serves as the personal bodyguard and assassin of Shao Kahn. She was originally rumored to have appeared in Mortal Kombat II, but she would make her official debut in Mortal Kombat (2011) as a DLC character. Skarlet is a practicioner of Blood Magik, drawing upon the blood of slain enemies to increase her power. Like a vampire, she constantly thirsts for blood, though she is not of the Moroi race.

History[]

Skarlet was once a mere urchin starving on the streets of Z'Unkahrah. At some point, Shao Kahn adopted her and decided to use the girl in an arcane experiment. Using the blood of countless slain warriors in conjunction with his own dark magic, the Kahn remade Skarlet as a powerful hunter and assassin. Utilizing the blood that made up her being as a weapon and constantly thirsting for more, Skarlet became Shao Kahn's most loyal and deadly creation.

During the Outworld Tournament, Skarlet was tasked by Shao Kahn to spy on the Netherrealm sorcerer Quan Chi and to kill him if she detected any signs of betrayal. As such, she did not take part in the tournament directly, though she may have been active during the Battle of Earthrealm that followed. Regardless, she was not present when Shao Kahn initiated the merger between Earth and Outworld and was unable to prevent her emperor's demise at Raiden's hands.

During the Outworld Civil War, Skarlet allied herself with General Reiko as he sought out the Kamidogu, though both were merely pawns of the chaos cleric Havik. When Kotal Kahn's forces attempted to stop them, Skarlet and Reiko set their band of corrupted warriors against them. Most of Kotal's warriors were either slain or corrupted by the Blood Code themselves. When Mileena intervened, Skarlet fought against the former empress herself. Aided by the telekinetic Ermac, Mileena defeats Skarlet after shattering her legs, crippling her.

When the Titan Kronika initiated her plan to create a New Era, she caused a merger of the past and present, bringing several warriors from the past into the present day, including Skarlet. Skarlet would join with Shao Kahn and several other villains as they supported Kronika's plan. As Shao Kahn plotted to reclaim Outworld's throne, Skarlet served as his protector, attacking Kotal Kahn and Jade when they attempted to infiltrate Baraka's war kamp. Skarlet would later fight against Kitana when the Edenian princess led an allied Shokan/Tarkatan assault on the Koliseum to free the captive Kotal. Skarlet was defeated and disappeared after the fight. Her final fate following the temporal crisis is unknown.

Abilities[]

  • Longevity - As an Outworlder, Skarlet has a much longer lifespan than a human. Due to her consumption of blood, she may be able to extend her lifespan indefinitely.
  • Blood Magik - Skarlet feeds on the blood of fallen warriors, which greatly increases her power. She can manipulate blood and use it as a weapon, casting bloody projectiles, conjuring tentacles of blood and even forming blades out of crystallized blood. She can use and consume the blood of any red-blooded being, though she favours the blood of beings who are magically inclined, such as Edenians. Kytinn blood is toxic to her.
  • Teleportation - Skarlet melts into blood and vanishes, reappearing a short distance from where she was.
  • Blades - Skarlet wields a variety of bladed weapons in kombat to maximize bleeding from her opponents, allowing her to draw power from her enemies' blood.
