Shaggai, also Chag-Hai, was a planet which featured in H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos.

Description[]

Once the homeworld of the alien species known as the Shan, Shaggai orbited a binary system composed of twin emerald stars thought to have been located somewhere in the Andromeda Galaxy.

History[]

Originally inhabited by the spacefaring Insects from Shaggai, around eight hundred years ago this once-proud world was destroyed by unknown means, although it is suspected that the nearby passage of the Outer God Ghroth - possibly under direction from the alien Mi-go for unknowable reasons - bombarded Shaggai into oblivion with its crimson radiation. However, even had Ghroth not flown by the planet, the Great Old One known as The Worm that Gnaws in the Night was already in the process of consuming Shaggai from the inside out; the planet was ultimately doomed regardless. Fortunately, at least some of the Shan were able to teleport themselves to other worlds, ensuring the survival of their species.

Inhabitants[]

  • The Shan, or Insects from Shaggai, a race of sentient creatures.
