Serie anime profile

Serie is an elven mage renowned for her vast magical knowledge, often referred to as a living grimoire. She serves as the head of the Continental Magic Association and holds the distinguished title of a Great Mage from the Mythical Era, a period she claims to have lived through. Her unparalleled wisdom and ancient power make her one of the most respected and enigmatic figures in the magical world.

Appearance[]

Serie is an elf distinguished by her golden hair and golden eyes. Like all elves, she has elongated pointed ears and retains a youthful appearance that belies her true age—she is even older than Frieren. Her hair is mostly worn loose, with four sections tied at the base, and her bangs, which frame her face, are also tied off at the ends.

Her usual attire consists of a loose-fitting white top adorned with a green brooch, paired with white shorts. When she ventures outdoors, she adds a long, elegant red cape fastened with gold clasps, from which green jewel embellishments hang. The cape’s collar is trimmed with white fur. Serie is often seen barefoot, wearing only two ankle bangles or wrappings.

In earlier times, she wore a light-colored toga dress reminiscent of Flamme’s style. During this period, she refrained from decorating her arms or hair, though she still wore the same ankle bangles and a necklace adorned with several pendants.

When engaging in battle with Macht, Serie modifies her look slightly—she wears footwear and socks tied off with decorative ribbons, and adds a loose-fitting jacket. The rest of her outfit remains the same as her usual attire while presiding over the Continental Magic Association.

Personality[]

Like many elves, Serie tends to be emotionally reserved, often coming across as distant or cold. However, beneath this stoic exterior lies a fair and discerning mind. She possesses a sharp intuition, especially when it comes to recognizing potential in others, and approaches situations with a pragmatic mindset—quick to assess danger, yet open to the desires of her disciples when she deems it reasonable.

Over the centuries, Serie has taken on numerous apprentices, drawn to her immense knowledge and status. Although she initially appears indifferent to her human students, citing their short lifespans as a flaw that renders them unworthy of apprenticeship, her actions reveal a more complex reality. She often claims that taking on Flamme was a mere whim, and even argues that humans should not be trained as mages. Yet, despite the passage of centuries or even millennia, Serie remembers each of her disciples—their favorite spells, their quirks, and their aspirations. Notably, despite calling Flamme’s preferred magic “pointless,” she honors it during the third stage of the First-Class Mage Exam by filling the field with the very flowers born of that spell.

Serie struggles with emotional expression and self-awareness, often failing to properly articulate or even understand her own feelings. She once confessed that while many of her apprentices failed to reach her level or leave a mark on history, she never once regretted mentoring them.

Ambition is a quality Serie deeply respects. She believes magic is, at its core, a tool of destruction—a belief that places her at odds with Frieren, who finds joy in the pursuit and discovery of magic itself. Flamme even once referred to Serie as a warmonger for her beliefs. Yet, for all her grim views, Serie clearly relishes encountering powerful mages. She is fascinated by those with a vast repertoire of spells and creative magical applications, and she seems to genuinely enjoy testing her strength against those who prove worthy.

Abilities[]

Unparalleled Mastery: Serie’s vast knowledge and skill place her at the pinnacle of magical prowess, making her the mage most closely aligned with the omnipotent and omniscient Goddess. Known as the "Living Grimoire," Serie has mastered almost every spell ever recorded by humanity, including ancient, forgotten, and mythical incantations. She claims to possess the contents of nearly every grimoire ever written, earning her the revered title of "Living Grimoire."

Immense Mana Reserves: Serie’s mana output is monumental, rivaling even Frieren’s unrestrained magical power. However, unlike Frieren, Serie constantly restricts her mana to prevent it from overwhelming her. Her true mana potential remains a mystery, as she never allows it to reach its full extent.

Mana Concealment: Serie is an expert in concealing her mana, making her nearly undetectable to even the most refined mana detection techniques. While others, such as Lernen, can sense instability in Frieren’s mana, they cannot detect any fluctuations in Serie’s. Only Fern, a rare mage, has managed to detect minor instability in her mana. Serie can suppress her mana output to the point where she becomes completely invisible to her enemies, even those with the highest levels of mana detection. She infiltrated Weise undetected by Macht of the Golden Land, one of the Seven Sages of Destruction, an achievement that even Frieren could not replicate.

Instinctive Perception: Serie’s instincts are renowned for being infallible. As Frieren attests, Serie's intuition has never been wrong. During the third stage of the First-Class Mage Exam, she relied solely on her instinct and intuition to discern which participants were worthy of passing. Additionally, Serie is capable of sensing the emotions and thoughts of others when meeting them, providing her with valuable insights beyond mere magical skill.

Spells and Abilities:[]

Barrier Magic: Serie excels in creating powerful and nearly impenetrable barriers. She demonstrated this ability during the First-Class Mage Exam, constructing a colossal barrier around the test area. This barrier was capable of blocking all matter, from water to even the smallest particles of dust, and was deemed impossible to dismantle by Genau, the exam’s proctor, and other participants. However, after extensive analysis, Frieren managed to break through it.

Spell Transfer (Fürwehrer): Serie can transfer her spells to other mages using Fürwehrer, a complex and powerful spell. This allows her to create a grimoire containing the knowledge of a particular spell, which, when read, enables the recipient to instantly learn it, regardless of their prior magical capabilities. Once the spell is transferred, Serie forgets the incantation, though she can relearn it later.

Curse Reversal Spell (Mistilziela): A rare and powerful spell, Mistilziela reflects any magic she perceives as a curse back at its source. This ancient spell takes a century to master and demands an immense amount of mana to cast, further showcasing Serie’s immense control and mastery over magic.

Spatial Magic: During her battle against Macht, Serie demonstrated her expertise in spatial magic. By distorting the point of impact, she was able to avoid a deadly strike from Macht’s massive sword, showcasing her unparalleled precision and understanding of space manipulation.

Defensive Magic: Serie is skilled in modern defensive magic, particularly the creation of hexagonal barriers that can shield specific areas or enclose her entirely. She demonstrated this during her battle against Macht, where she used defensive magic to block Macht's destructive spell, Zoltraak, effectively neutralizing its offensive power.

Story[]

Serie’s Story

Serie, the "Living Grimoire," is an elven mage whose existence spans centuries, a being whose name is synonymous with unparalleled magical knowledge. Her life has been marked by a relentless pursuit of mastery in all things magical, forging a path that few have dared to tread. Despite her vast power and wisdom, her journey is not without its complexities, shaped by both her deep connection to magic and her somewhat distant nature.

Origins and Early Life[]

Born in an era long before the current age, Serie was raised among the ancient elves, a race known for their longevity and connection to the natural world. From an early age, she exhibited a profound aptitude for magic. Her talent was so extraordinary that it soon became apparent that she would surpass even the most accomplished mages of her time. As an elf, Serie’s lifespan allowed her to witness the rise and fall of countless civilizations, absorbing knowledge from the ancient texts, lost grimoires, and forgotten spells of ages past.

Her insatiable curiosity led her to become a scholar of the arcane, dedicating herself to uncovering the mysteries of magic, both known and unknown. She scoured every corner of the world for relics of magic, seeking out rare texts and ancient grimoires to expand her knowledge. Over time, Serie’s understanding of magic grew so vast that it earned her the title of the "Living Grimoire"—a living embodiment of all magical knowledge ever discovered, a record of every spell, incantation, and magical phenomenon ever recorded by humanity.

Rise to Prominence[]

Serie's immense magical prowess soon became legendary, and her name spread throughout the world. Despite the challenges that came with such power, she remained dedicated to the preservation and advancement of magical knowledge. Her role as the head of the Continental Magic Association placed her at the forefront of magical society, where she became a guiding force for both young and seasoned mages alike.

Though she led the Magic Association with unwavering authority, Serie was never an aloof ruler. Instead, she acted as a mentor to many, passing on her immense knowledge to a new generation of mages. Over the centuries, she took on numerous apprentices, both human and elven, hoping to shape them into powerful mages capable of standing by her side. However, Serie’s relationship with her human apprentices was often distant. She could never truly shake her belief that humans, with their short lifespans, could not possibly reach the heights of magical mastery she had attained.

Her first true human apprentice, Flamme, came into her life almost by accident. Serie initially took Flamme on a whim, not expecting much from a human mage. Yet, over time, Flamme’s determination and passion for magic began to chip away at Serie's indifference. Despite claiming that Flamme's preferred magic was trivial, Serie’s actions spoke differently. Even after centuries, she had not forgotten the magic Flamme had favored, and she carried it with her, conducting the First-Class Mage Exam amid the flowers Flamme had conjured. It was a small, quiet acknowledgment of the bond they shared—a bond forged not by overwhelming magical power, but by a shared love for magic.

Conflict and Disillusionment[]

Despite her vast accomplishments, Serie’s journey has not been without its struggles. Her views on magic often put her at odds with other powerful figures, such as Frieren, whose philosophical approach to magic contrasted sharply with her own. While Frieren saw magic as a path of personal discovery and growth, Serie viewed it as a tool—one that could be wielded to its fullest potential, often with devastating consequences.

Her disillusionment with her apprentices was another source of internal conflict. Serie took on many students, but most failed to live up to her expectations, either succumbing to the limits of their mortal existence or failing to leave a lasting impact on the world. For all her vast knowledge, Serie found little satisfaction in the achievements of others, unable to shake the feeling that her own pursuit of knowledge had come at the cost of true connection. She never regretted taking on her apprentices, but she could not help but feel that they had fallen short in a world that moved far too quickly for their fleeting lives.

The Future of Magic[]

As the centuries passed, Serie’s view of magic grew colder, more calculated. She saw magic as a means of war and power, a tool to be honed and refined to perfection. Yet, there remained a spark of curiosity deep within her—a fascination with those who could master magic in unexpected ways. The thrill of encountering powerful, unconventional mages drove her forward, and she found herself continually drawn to those who could push the boundaries of what magic could do.

Her legacy, however, is not just one of knowledge and power, but of a deep commitment to preserving magic for future generations. Despite her cold demeanor and pragmatic worldview, Serie’s role as a mentor remains vital. Her ability to see potential where others see none and her relentless pursuit of magical mastery have ensured that she remains a figure of immense importance in the magical world.
