Saturn, also known as Saturnus, was the Roman god of Capitol, wealth, agriculture, liberation, was the father of Jupiter, Neptune, Pluto, Juno, Ceres and Vesta.
He became weary of his children, and feared that they would overthrow, and so devoured them all, save for Jupiter, who was hidden by Saturn's wife, Ops. Jupiter was raised on the island of Crete, until he was strong enough. He then forced Saturn to vomit the five other siblings and together they overthrew Saturn.
The old god would retreat to faraway hills, where would meet another deity named Janus, who would give him sanctuary.
He has been compared to Greek Titan Cronus, as well as Baal-Hammon and Moloch.
