Salamanders are creatures which appear in Games Workshop’s Warhammer Fantasy and Age of Sigmar settings.
Description[]
Great quadrupedal reptiles, Salamanders inhabit the swampy jungles of the continent of Lustria. They sport a long, spiny “sail” along the length of their backs, and possess a frill around their necks, both of which are used to help them bleed off excess heat in the humid rainforests.
The most distinguishing feature of a Salamader, however, is its ability to spit forth a volatile toxin which, upon contact with the air, bursts into flame, cooking the Salamander’s victim in preparation for consumption.
Domestication[]
Salamanders are often employed by Skink artisans, who use their fiery breath as a means to fuel the forges which supply the Lizardmen with the many wondrous artefacts for which that race is famed.
Applications in Battle[]
When the Lizardmen march to war, brave Skink handlers are often employed to herd packs of Salamanders onto the field of battle. There, they function as mobile flamethrowers, their handlers poking them with lengthy spears until the Salamanders vomit forth their horrific spittle. In addition, should an opponent get too close to the pack, Salamanders are more than capable of dealing with most enemies using only their sharp talons and powerful jaws.
