The Saja Boys are the secondary antagonists of KPop: Demon Hunters. They are a group of demons disguised as a boy band to steal human souls to feed to their master, Gwi-Ma. They are lead by Jinu.

Personality[]

The Saja Boys present themselves as charming, respectful, and graceful in public—bowing politely, speaking gently, and acting like ideal idols during media appearances and game shows. Their polished behavior creates the illusion that they are courteous and well-mannered, winning over fans with ease. However, this is nothing more than a façade. When the cameras are off and no one is watching, their true personalities emerge: sly, arrogant, and cold-hearted. Beneath the surface, they are manipulative and self-absorbed, driven by a narcissistic sense of superiority. Abby notes that Zoey keeps staring at his own abs, further highlighting their obsession with their looks and their need to feel admired.

Among them, Jinu stands apart. While he shares their demonic origins and deceptive charm, he is the only one who still clings to his humanity. Unlike the others—who have fully embraced their monstrous nature without remorse—Jinu struggles with guilt, empathy, and emotional conflict. The rest of the Saja Boys, once human, have become hollow shadows of what they used to be: heartless beings who care only for power, beauty, and their pact with Gwi-Ma.

Appearance[]

In their true forms, the Saja Boys share a hauntingly similar appearance—light purple-blue skin etched with demonic markings, razor-sharp claws and fangs, and glowing yellow eyes with black, slit pupils. They wear black hanbok and traditional gat hats, evoking the eerie presence of the jeoseung saja, the Korean Grim Reaper, from whom they draw visual inspiration. Their presence in this form is unsettling and otherworldly, embodying death and darkness.

When cloaked in their human disguises, however, the Saja Boys appear as strikingly handsome and fashion-forward young men. Each adopts a unique style, with distinct clothing, hairstyles, and accessories that enhance their charm and modern appeal. Glamorous and charismatic, they blend effortlessly into the human world, using their beauty and poise to manipulate and deceive those around them. Their contrasting appearances reflect the duality of their nature: alluring on the outside, but terrifying at their core.

Story[]

After a failed attempt to eliminate the latest generation of demon hunters—the K-pop girl group HUNTR/X, made up of Rumi, Mira, and Zoey—Gwi-Ma erupts in fury. Enraged by their survival, he incinerates the sole surviving demon, a stewardess imposter, for her failure and weakness. As his power wanes and the barrier known as the Honmoon nears its transformation into the Golden Honmoon—which would banish him and his demons forever—Gwi-Ma grows desperate.

In response, the Saja Boys—a group of once-human demons led by Jinu—propose a bold strategy: fight fame with fame. They offer to become a K-pop group themselves, using charm, popularity, and music to sway the masses and weaken the Honmoon from within. Intrigued by the idea, Gwi-Ma gives them his blessing. Within a week of debuting their first track, “Soda Pop,” the Saja Boys explode in popularity, capturing the hearts of fans and threatening HUNTR/X’s hold on the public.

The rising tension leads to a confrontation between HUNTR/X and the Saja Boys at a male bathhouse. But what begins as a challenge turns into an ambush when water demons strike. During the scuffle, Jinu discovers Rumi’s secret—her demonic lineage inherited from her father, with her mother once a member of the legendary demon-hunting trio, the Sunlight Sisters. He hides the truth from Mira and Zoey, subtly protecting Rumi.

As the Saja Boys’ popularity skyrockets, they set their sights on the International Idol Awards, where the size of the global audience would allow Gwi-Ma to absorb millions of souls and achieve his final form. However, in secret, Jinu has been meeting with Rumi. Moved by her struggle and slowly reconnecting with his humanity, Jinu offers a deal: the Saja Boys will withdraw from the competition to allow HUNTR/X to win, fortify the Honmoon, and banish Gwi-Ma once and for all.

But Gwi-Ma uncovers Jinu’s betrayal. Enraged, he forces Jinu back into obedience, tormenting him with voices of the family he once abandoned. Under pressure, Jinu rejoins the Saja Boys and sets a cruel plan in motion. Mira and Zoey are lured away, while demons impersonating them sabotage Rumi’s performance of “Takedown”—a song meant to expose evil, but now twisted against her. Her demon patterns are revealed in front of everyone, shocking Mira and Zoey and turning public opinion. Devastated and ashamed, Rumi flees.

With HUNTR/X disbanded and the Honmoon shattered, the Saja Boys take the stage with their hypnotic track “Your Idol,” putting the world into a trance. Gwi-Ma begins to feed, growing stronger with each soul. But Rumi, no longer ashamed of her heritage, returns with a new song from her heart: “What It Sounds Like.” Her voice disrupts Gwi-Ma’s control and breaks his influence over Mira and Zoey. Immune to his power thanks to her human side, Rumi is joined by her friends once more. HUNTR/X is reborn.

Together, their harmonized voices begin to unravel Gwi-Ma’s power. Furious, Gwi-Ma sends the Saja Boys and all remaining demons to stop them, but the girls overpower them with ease. Desperate, Gwi-Ma absorbs his entire army to strike Rumi down—but Jinu, now fully redeemed, steps in and takes the fatal blow. In his final moments, he transfers his soul into Rumi’s sword, empowering her with a weapon strong enough to wound Gwi-Ma.

With their voices joined by the crowd, HUNTR/X finishes their song, creating a new and permanent Honmoon. Gwi-Ma, the Saja Boys, and the remaining demons are banished back to the underworld—this time forever.

Jinu’s soul is gone, but not forgotten. His animal familiars are adopted by HUNTR/X, with Rumi caring for his tiger. And with the new Honmoon allowing certain good demons to cross over, there’s a glimmer of hope: that one day, Jinu might return.
