The Rotten are mutilated undead creatures that appear in Resident Evil Revelations 2. These monsters are the reanimated corpses of humans infected with the T-Phobos virus.

History[]

During Barry Burton's campaign in Revelations 2, Barry and the young Natalia Korda encounter multiple undead creatures as they explore Sushestvovanie Island. Six months prior to Barry's arrival, the island was populated by people infected with T-Phobos which were collectively known as "Afflicted". These infected individuals, driven to primal madness, all eventually died out and were left to rot. However, being a variant of the T-virus, the T-Phobos virus caused the Afflicted corpses to reanimate as zombies.

Overview[]

The Rotten are essentially the same as the zombies created by the T-virus. However, they suffer from a greater state of decay, most likely due to being active for a much longer period compared to the infectees of any previous viral outbreaks. The Rotten have lost most of their skin and their muscle tissue has largely been reduced to mush, making the skeletons of the creatures completely visible.

Rotten behave in a similar manner to other undead mutations. They stagger slowly toward living prey with their arms outstretched and attempt to consume their victim's flesh. Rotten can be killed permanently via the same methods used for other undead mutations, most notably destroying the creatures' brains. Unlike zombies created by the T or C-virus, Rotten do not undergo secondary mutations after being damaged. Once dead, they stay dead.
