The Revenant is a demonic enemy that appears in the DOOM video game series. Introduced in DOOM II, it is a skeletal creature donning battle armour and armed with missile launchers on its shoulders, making it an especially deadly force at range.
DOOM II[]
The Revenant appears as a tall humanoid skeleton with blood and viscera covering its pelvis and thigh bones. It wears a white armoured vest over its chest and has a missile launcher attached to each shoulder piece. When it spots the player, this monster will emit a high-pitched shriek before charging, firing its weapons as it goes. When it gets close to the player, it will resort to punches.
The Revenant is equipped with two types of projectiles: unguided rockets that shoot straight forward and missiles with limited homing capability. These projectiles can inflict heavy damage and the homing projectiles are difficult to dodge out in the open, but the player can use the terrain or even other enemies to block them. The Chaingun will suffice when facing one Revenant, but when facing several it would be prudent to switch to the Plasma Rifle or BFG 9000.
DOOM 3[]

In DOOM 3, the Revenant is an elite demon that appears in later stages. It once again appears to be a reanimated skeleton adorning armour, but upon closer inspection it has a layer of transparent skin covering its form. While most of the monsters in DOOM 3 can be explained scientifically, the Revenant cannot; it has no visible internal organs or muscle tissue, so it is unclear how it is able to move. In all likelihood, however, Revenants are manipulated entirely by Hell entities like puppets.
Revenants attack by firing rockets from the cannons on their shoulders. Compared to their DOOM II predecessors, the projectiles fired by these Revenants are fairly weak, though they do travel in unusual patterns, indicating a malfunctioning targeting system or similar glitch. In DOOM 3, the Revenant's missiles can also be shot down by the player.
As well as firing missiles, the Revenant will also swipe at the player with its hands if the player is close. However, it moves at quite a slow pace, making its melee attacks easy to dodge. It can be killed swiftly at close range with the Super Shotgun, though the Plasma Rifle is the better option when fighting from a distance as the shot radius is ideal for taking down the Revenant's missiles in-flight.
DOOM (2016)[]

In DOOM (2016), the Revenant once again appears as a skeletal creature, though it has a noticeably greater amount of flesh still on its body. Patches of skin and muscle remain visible as well as wiring connecting it to the cybernetic harness upon its torso. The harness not only provides the Revenant with armour and weapons, but grants it limited flight capability. When on the ground, it will attack either by clawing at the player when up close, or will launch missiles in a straight line from a distance. It will otherwise jump into the air and hover in place while launching homing missiles at the player.
According to the game's codex, Revenants were created by the UAC by exposing several of their soldiers to Argent energy waves and grafting Multiple Launch Rocket Batteries to their bodies. The subjects were implanted with Argent-based neural chips that allowed them to operate their flight and weapon systems as extensions of their own bodies.
In close combat, Revenants will charge at the Doom Slayer and attack with punches. They are surprisingly fast and their harnesses do not seem to limit their mobility at all. However, close quarters is the ideal means with which to dispatch these monsters; they are most vulnerable to the Super Shotgun and attacks aimed at their cybernetics can cause their jet packs to go haywire, resulting in the Revenants losing control and exploding.
DOOM Eternal[]

This version of the Revenant combines elements of its designs from both DOOM II and DOOM (2016), sporting a white armoured harness while retaining a jet pack. The appearance is "cleaner" than before, the skeleton showing less lingering flesh or blood and more visible wiring and metal plates cybernetically linking it to its combat harness.
As the forces of Hell began their invasion of Earth, UAC cultists aided the invasion by continuing the Revenant program which was supposedly destroyed following the Mars Event. UAC soldiers possessed by Hell entities were stripped down to the bone and their nervous systems were hardwired to the cybernetic harnesses they would don in battle. The modified cerebral wiring reduced the subjects to a perpetual state of violent madness that compelled them to kill anything and anyone in their sights.
As in DOOM (2016), the Revenant can use its jet pack to fly for short periods of time. When airborne, it will launch volleys of missiles that will home in on the Doom Slayer. However, this is also when the Revenant is most vulnerable as it takes increased damaged from the Ballista while airborne. It is also worth mentioning that its missile pods can be targeted and destroyed with certain weapons, such as Sticky Bombs, Sniper Rounds and the Ballista. Without its missile pods, the Revenant can only attack with its claws.
