Ra, also known as Re, is the Egyptian god of the sun and creation.

According to the creation story of Heliopolis, Ra originated from the primordial waters of Nun, being the first of the gods and the progenitor of all other deities. He sired the gods Shu and Tefnut, who became the gods of wind and rain. At some point Ra got separated from his children, but eventually found them again, which led him to cry in joy and the tears would become the first humans.

Ra and his children would continued to expand the universe, with Shu and Tefnut having children of their own, Geb and Nut, who were the land and the sky. These two then sired the next generation of deities: Osiris, Isis, Nephthys and Set, who ruled over the humans as the first royal family. He is also the father of Hathor, Sekhmet, Bastet, Satet, Anhur, and Maat.

Ra would eventually become the sun and travel across the sky, always avoiding to be devoured by the chaotic serpent Apep within the underworld. He was replaced by Osiris, whose line continued through Horus and eventually the human-pharaohs.

Ra would be often syncretised with other major Egyptian deities, such as Atum]], the sun god of Heliopolis, Amun, the creator god of Thebes, Horus, the god of the sky, Khnum, the god of the source of the Nile from Elephantine, and Sobek, the military crocodile god of Crocodilopolis.
