Psychovultures (Latin: Vultura insanus) are creatures which appear in the Monsterverse comic book Skull Island: The Birth of Kong.
Description[]
A species of flying reptile which bears more than a passing resemblance to those which ruled the skies during the time of the dinosaurs, Psychovultures can reach wingspans of up to nine feet. Their lack of light receptors indicates blindness, however, they have evolved a form of thermal vision which enables them to track targets by means of their body heat. In addition to this, they possess the ability to echolocate in the same manner as bats; these two senses make them equally deadly during the day or night. As if this wasn’t enough, Psychovultures are capable of discharging a blast of electricity from their mouths, as seen when one downed an aircraft carrying an expeditionary team to Skull Island.
Psychovultures are known to prey upon a species of toxic pufferfish which calls the lagoons surrounding Skull Island it’s home. The ingestion of the poisons produced by this fish severely unbalanced the mental processes of a Psychovulture, resulting in a state of constant psychopathy, hence the creatures’ name. For a Psychovulture, the act of feeding is not enough; it feels the need to destroy other animals simply for the thrill of it, and will attack other animals many times it’s size in an effort to indulge this drive.
