Plague Crawlers are insectoid creatures that appear as enemies in Resident Evil Zero. They are one of Umbrella's earliest attempts at producing insect-based B.O.W.'s, created by none other than the corporation's co-founder James Marcus.
Plague Crawlers appear to resemble giant cockroaches, though they were created by splicing the genes of multiple insect species with the T-virus. Their development never advanced beyond the experimental stage as the creatures lacked intelligence and were too difficult to control. Some of them survived disposal, however, and would procreate in the wild. They prefer to nest in dark, wet areas.
Plague Crawlers attack by tackling prey and cutting them to pieces with their pincers. Their chitinous skin is resistant to handgun fire, though shotguns have proven to be quite effective.
