La Pisadeira, also known as La Pesadeira, is a legendary female creature of Brazilian folklore that scares people who eat too at dawn and steps on their bellies while they sleep, leaving them suffocated or paralyzed.

Appearance[]

La Pisadeira is usually described as a very thin old woman, with long, dry fingers, huge, dirty, yellowish nails. She has short legs, shaggy hair, huge, arched nose like a hawk. Her eyes are fiery red, evil and wide. Her chin is always turned down and her mouth is wide open with teeth and green. She never laughs, she laughs. A shrill, horrible laugh. She lives on the rooftops, always on the lookout. When a person has dinner and goes to sleep with a full stomach, lying down with their belly up, the pisadeira comes into action. She descends from her hiding place and sits or steps on the chest of the victim who goes into a comatose state, aware of what is happening around you, but powerless and incapable of any reaction.
