Owl House

The Owl House is the titular location in the Disney animated series of the same name. It is the home of Eda Clawthorne, her adopted Titan son King, the house demon Hooty (who is part of the house itself) and temporary home of the human girl Luz Noceda. It is located on the western cliffs of the Boiling Isles in the Demon Realm.

History[]

As a child, Eda was cursed by her sister Lilith, causing her to transform into an Owl Beast in times of great stress. After an incident where she wounded her father while in her beast form, she ran away from home. At some point after that, she decided to fix up an old stone tower that once belonged to her father and would build the Owl House next to it. It is unknown how Hooty came to occupy the house or if he was involved in its construction.

At some point after building the Owl House, Eda would explore an uncharted island while running from the Emperor's Coven. During this time, she discovered the infant King and brought him home with her, thinking that he was merely an animal until he spoke for the first time, saying the word "king".

Eight years after Eda took King into her home, the Owl House would receive another new tenant, a teenage girl from the Human Realm called Luz Noceda. Enthralled by the wonders of the Demon Realm and wanting to avoid going to summer camp, Luz wanted to become a witch and begged Eda to take her on as an apprentice. Eda agreed on the condition that Luz run errands for her, but quickly formed a close bond with the human, acting like a surrogate mother to her.

Two months following Luz's arrival in the Demon Realm, Eda would be captured by the Emperor's Coven. After Lilith learned that Emperor Belos was planning to petrify Eda, she helped Luz in freeing her from captivity. Revealing that she had been the one to curse Eda in the first place, Lilith promised to make amends with her sister, starting with splitting the Owl Beast curse between the two of them. While this restored the transformed Eda to her normal form, it also left both sisters vulnerable to future transformations without regular consumption of elixir and rendered them both incapable of using magic. Lilith would stay at the Owl House for some time while she and Eda got used to their powerless states. In the meantime, Luz would teach them to use magic as she had come to use it through glyphs.

As the Day of Unity approached, Luz, King and Hooty left the Owl House to embark on an adventure to find who were believed to be King's family. While they were away, Coven Scouts attempted to capture Eda and Lilith, but the sisters had escaped through a hidden tunnel. The house was ransacked and would remain vacant for months after this. During this time, the Collector would be freed and caused chaos across the Boiling Isles. Luz and her friends from Hexside would escape from this as they fled through a portal to the Human Realm following a confrontation with Emperor Belos.

When Luz, her friends and her mother Camilla returned to the Boiling Isles, they found the Owl House empty, with all the furniture gone and graffiti scrawled across the outside walls. They remained there for a short while before leaving for Hexside. Some time later, Luz, Eda and King would return to the Owl House with the Collector in tow. There, they show the Collector a photo album displaying several of the trio's adventures.

After Belos' final defeat, Luz and her friends are reunited at the Owl House. There, Eda finally meets Luz's mother, who hugs her fiercely as thanks for taking good care of Luz. During the 4-year time skip, The Owl House was cleaned up and Raine moved in. Eda, King, Lilith, Camila, and others held a belated quinceañera for Luz because she has spent three years helping rebuild the Isles. King shows Luz his growing powers and new glyphs. The Collector creates a light show for everyone to enjoy and they all give a final goodbye.

Appearance[]

The Owl House is a large house made from white brick with a sloping blue roof. A stained glass window above the door gives the impression of a large orange demon eye. A crumbling stone tower with orange moss growing on it is located to the rear left of the house. It is revealed to be separate from the house when Hooty is conjured in the episode "Hooty's Moving Hassle".

Interior[]

While the exterior is of limited size, the Owl House appears to be much bigger on the inside, containing a number of rooms, corridors, and storage spaces. The house seems to consist of a basement and three stories.

Basement[]

This appears to be where random unused objects of the Owl House are stored. The floor consists of a trap door that leads to a massive tunnel. In the episode "Knock, Knock, Knockin' on Hooty's Door", Hooty transforms the tunnel into a Tunnel of Love ride which consists of a river, animatronics, and various cardboard cutouts in an attempt to match Luz and Amity together.

Ground floor[]

  • Living Room - Located right behind the front door. It includes a fireplace facing opposite two couches, candles, a wall of artifacts, and Eda's wanted poster, and artwork of an owl creature on the ceiling.
  • Kitchen - Found at the back of the house. A huge window gives a view of the land behind the house, with a door leading outside. The kitchen itself has a table, a refrigerator, a range, and shelves lined with various objects.
  • Shed - Connected to the side of the house underneath a low part of the roof. This is primarily used for storage, including piles of logs and sealed chests and pots.

Second floor[]

  • Luz's Room - Once a storage closet, now a comfy hideout. Luz has made this room her own with the few possessions she brought from the Human Realm - and lots of Eda's stuff.

Top floor[]

  • Eda's Room - Located at the front of the house where the eye-shaped window is. Instead of a bed, Eda sleeps in a nest littered with bones and human junk.
  • Bathroom - A standard house bathroom, behind a purple door with a sign saying "Ladies (and King)". It is located at the end of the same hallway that Eda's room is connected to.
  • Balcony - Made from a short stone tower built in the side of the house, this can be accessed on the upper floor via a large rectangular cutout in the wall of Eda's room. It allows for a good view of the Boiling Isles.
