Midian is where the monsters live

This article contains information regarding the creatures which are part of Monster Wiki's Tribes of the Moon project, from Clive Barker's novel Cabal, the movie adaptation Nightbreed, and its spin-off comic book series.

Ohnaka was a character who featured in the 1990 fantasy-horror movie Nightbreed and it’s associated media.

Description[]

A slightly-built boy who looked to be in his middle teens, Ohnaka had several tattoos on his arms and two striking sunburst-style images etched across his breast. He had a nipple piercing from which hung a medal of unknown origin and, most unusually of all, wore a necklace made from rooster heads. When asked about his tattoos, Ohnaka would tell the tale of how angels drew on his body for their amusement before his birth. However, those same angels, afraid of what God might do should he see their handiwork, dictated that he would never be able to stand in the sun where the Creator might see his markings. He had recurrent nightmares about his tattoos: that one day the angels would come back, and next time tattoo him on the inside, where nobody could see . . .

Over one hundred years old at his time of his transformation, Ohnaka appeared not to have aged a day since his adolescence; this was possibly due to his induction into the Tribes of the Moon, although it is equally possible that it was a natural trait, as his origins remain unknown. He was also susceptible to the rays of the sun, to the extent that even a relatively short exposure to them was enough to return him to the dust. Whether this was a curse placed upon him by the repentant angels will never be known.

History[]

Ohnaka was one of the first to welcome Cabal into the ranks of the Nightbreed, his shy but friendly manner endearing himself to their supposed saviour. He rescued Lori from the Berserkers before taking her to Boone, eventually leading them both through Midian’s Labyrinth to the Graveyard above.

Unfortunately for Ohnaka, when the Shere Neck police department arrested Aaron Boone on suspicion of murder and searched the cemetery at Midian for accomplices, they noticed the boy watching them from one of its many mausoleums. Dragging him out into the sunlight, Ohnaka began to burn, before exploding into a shower of dust and ash-like rock.

Trivia[]

  • Ohnaka cared for a small dog during his living years. What became of it after his transfer to dust was not revealed.
