Mother Longlegs (Latin: Arachnida malum) are a species of insectoid kaiju which appear in the 2017 fantasy-adventure movie Kong: Skull Island and its prequel comic Skull Island: The Birth of Kong.

Description[]

A beast unique to Skull Island, the Mother Longlegs is a type of arachnid resembling a spider crab. Far larger than any species of spider previously known to man, with adults growing over twenty feet in height, they possess a smooth carapace resembling bamboo. A similar plating also covers their extremely long limbs.

Mother Longlegs are ambush predators which hunt standing stock-still in the dense groves of the Bamboo Forest on the island’s north side. There, they wait for unwary animals to venture near their long legs, which blend in perfectly with the surrounding bamboo. When prey comes close, they will spear it with their toxin-coated limbs, drinking a portion of the victim’s fluids, before unfurling a set of powerful abdominal tentacles which will drag the prey up and into their open stomach.

Interestingly, the Mother Longlegs is a species comprised of only females; they reproduce asexually, and as such do not require contact with others of their species whatsoever.
