The Mire Squid (Latin Gigantus leviapus) was an enormous kaiju-like cephalopod which featured in the 2017 fantasy-adventure movie Kong: Skull Island and it’s prequel comic Skull Island: The Birth of Kong.
Description[]
Native to Skull Island, at between 90 and 110 feet in length, the Mire Squid was a fearsome creature indeed. Possessed of multiple powerful tentacles equipped with suckers, it appeared to be an ambush predator, lying in wait for a victim to come close. It possessed the ability to squirt a cloud of ink in the same manner as a normal squid, as seen when it vomited forth a gout of black fluid when its central body was crushed. Notably, this ink was superheated by its extremely high core temperature, giving the squid a twofold protection against predation: it was able to scald attackers whilst making its escape behind the cloud.
Interestingly, the Mire Squid appeared to be a freshwater animal, unlike regular squid which are only known to inhabit saltwater environments.
History[]

After fighting off the human expeditionary force which had invaded Skull Island, Kong took some time to inspect his wounds and slake his thirst, when he became aware of the presence of a Mire Squid in the waters next to him. Dragging it up by one of its tentacles, the creature attempted to bring Kong down by ensnaring him in its multi-limbed grasp, but was easily outmatched, and Kong dispatched it by crushing its head underfoot. He then ate a portion of one of its tentacles, before dragging the remainder of the creature off, presumably to consume later.
