Mary Shaw

Mary Shaw is a human-turned-puppet and serves as the main antagonist of the 2007 horror film Dead Silence. She was a lonely ventriloquist before her death. However, when revived, she became a ghost doll and plotted against Ravens Fair, a small town where she was murdered after allegedly kidnapping a young boy who heckled her during a performance.

She was played by Judith Roberts.

Fictional character biography[]

Beware the stare of Mary Shaw.
She had no children, only dolls.
If you see her in your dreams, be sure you never,
ever scream or she'll rip your tongue out at the seam.

The nursery rhyme above tells a horrifying story of Mary Shaw. She was born in 1869. She had no human friends in childhood, and dolls and puppets were her only companions. When she grew up, she became a ventriloquist who had no spouse or family. She was murdered in 1941, out of revenge for kidnapping a boy who offended her, and her tongue was pulled out by the child's family.

However, she was revived years later as a spirit, and seeks her own vengeance by using her dolls. She murders children and pulls their tongue out, just as was done to her.
