Marowak

Marowak is a Ground-type Pokémon and the evolved form of Cubone. When Cubone comes to terms with the death of its mother, it reaches maturity and evolves into its adult form. The skull it once wore as a helmet is now fused to its head and cannot be removed.

Pokédex Data[]

Marowak looks largely the same as Cubone, the main difference being that the skull it once wore as a helmet has now become a part of its body. It stands at 3 feet tall, has noticeable claws on its hands and feet, and has developed a small spike on its tail. It carries a larger bone than before which it wields as a weapon.

Having accepted its mother's death, Marowak has grown into a ferocious warrior. It resides in mountainous areas where it trains its body by regularly punching boulders. With its great strength, it seeks to protect Cubone from their natural predators, Mandibuzz.

Alolan variant[]

Marowak-Alola

The Alolan variant of Marowak is a Fire/Ghost-type Pokémon. This evolutionary path is the result Marowak living amongst a large population of Grass-type Pokémon. Physically, the Alolan variant is leaner than the standard Marowak. It has black skin, a longer tail, has a black mark on its forehead resembling a flame, and wields a long bone with spectral green flames burning on both ends.

The Alolan Marowak lights the ends of its bone club by rubbing them against the mark on its head. It then dances while waving and spinning the bone like a baton. The dance it performs is part of a ritual of mourning; after a deceased companion has been buried, Marowak performs this dance to ward off predators so that the soul of the deceased may safely depart for the afterlife.

Abilities[]

  • Strength - Though small, Marowak is extremely tough. It uses its brute strength to move large boulders.
  • Bonemerang - Marowak's signature move. It throws its bone like a boomerang, hitting the opponent once on the way out and again as it flies back.
  • Focus Energy - Marowak focuses its energy into its next attack in order to deal greater damage.
  • Double-Edge - A damage-dealing move that inflicts recoil damage upon the user as well.
  • Fire Spin - The Alolan Marowak dances around its opponent and spins its bone to scatter burning embers.
  • Shadow Bone - The Alolan Marowak strikes its opponent with its bone, the ethereal flames sapping the enemy's strength and lowering their defence.
