Magma Turtles (Latin: Tortoisa vulkana) are creatures which appear in the comic book Skull Island: The Birth of Kong.

Despite its name, the Magma Turtle is actually an enormous species of tortoise, reaching anywhere between 34 and 40 feet in length. Their eggs are laid in the heart of the Skull Island volcano known as Hellspring Peak, and upon hatching are coated in a plate of molten rock which solidifies as the creature makes its way to its feeding grounds surrounding the mountain. As a Magma Turtle matures, it will make periodic return visits to the molten caldera of the volcano, where it will smelt off its old armour and re-coat itself in a larger rock shell. This process will last until the Magma Turtle reaches adulthood, and ensures that the beast has no natural predators.
As should be obvious from the above, Magma Turtles have an innate resistance to extreme heat, and their blood is reputed to run at the same temperature as the liquid rock in which they bathe.
