Magikarp

Magikarp is a Water-type Pokémon that is common the world over, residing not only in the sea but various freshwater bodies, as well. It is catalogued as No. 129 in the National Pokédex and is considered by and large to be the weakest and most pathetic of all Pokémon.

Pokédex Data[]

The Fish Pokémon Magikarp has an oval-shaped body covered in red scales. It has wide, vacant eyes, pink lips and long, yellow barbels. It has a three-pointed yellow fin on its back and underbelly as well as white pectoral fins and tail fin.

Magikarp is known to reside in either saltwater or freshwater, though its preferred habitat seems to be downstream of the water's flow as it has less need to expend energy swimming, which it does poorly. In fact, it is apparently capable of surviving even in the most heavily polluted waters, indicating a strong immune system.

Magikarp is regarded by most humans to be the weakest species of Pokémon in the world, and with good reason. It has absolutely no abilities that can be used in battle and cannot learn any abilities either naturally or through the use of Technical Machines. All it does is flop and splash around uselessly. In the wild, this pitiful flopping around works to Magikarp's disadvantage as it periodically jumps out of the water, making itself a target for predators such as Pidgeotto and Fearow. With so many traits detremental to its survival, Magikarp has only managed to endure due to its incredible rate of reproduction.

Evolution[]

Magikarp's one saving grace is that it can evolve into a much more powerful Pokémon: the mighty Gyarados. Gyarados used to be more abundant in ancient times, but it seems that they de-evolved into the pathetic Magikarp over the centuries. Why this occurred remains a mystery.

Magikarp evolves into Gyarados at Level 20.
