In Clive Barker's Hellraiser franchise of novels, films and comic books Leviathan, the God of Flesh, Hunger and Desire, was the cosmic being responsible for the creation of the demonic Cenobites, and ruler of the dimension known as the Labyrinth.

Description[]

In his realm, Leviathan appears as an enormous, diamond-shaped entity which spins slowly above the maze-like Labyrinth dimension which it inhabits, although it can be reformed into other shapes by correspondingly solving the puzzle of the Lament Configuration. Doing so apparently releases the tormented souls held captive in the Labyrinth.

Whilst the true extent of Leviathan's powers were never revealed, it can be reasonably assumed that it possesses near-absolute control over its realm, as it was shown to be capable of holding uncounted numbers of souls prisoner against their will, creating Cenobites at will (gifting them with abilities of their own), and sending out streamers of darkling energy which would, when encountering a living form, make them experience every single sin they had ever committed, driving them insane in the process.

The Labyrinth.

Where Leviathan came from is another facet of this being which was never uncovered, although given the similarity of its realm to that of the Christian hell, and the abilities which it displayed, many believe that it is in fact Satan himself. This theory is somewhat supported by the fact that the Cenobite Angelique was once a Princess of Hell, and returned there (to Leviathan's Labyrinth) when dragged back by the activation of the Lament Configuration.
