Leatherback was a monstrous kaiju which appeared in the 2013 sci-fi monster movie Pacific Rim and its associated media.
Description[]
One of the biologically constructed war machines deployed by an unknown alien race through an interdimensional portal known as The Breach, Leatherback was a Category IV kaiju, and one of the largest of that classification in both size and weight.
Resembling nothing so much as a terrestrial gorilla, Leatherback was a massively built creature standing 267 feet tall and weighing in at a mind-boggling 2,900 tons. His heavily-armoured hide was tough enough to withstand the most powerful of blows, and his physical strength enormous, allowing him to toss a Jaeger weighing in at nearly 2,000 tons for hundreds of metres. In addition, he possessed an organ on the back of his head which was capable of emitting an electromagnetic pulse which could shut down any unprotected electronics within a wide area.
History[]
During the “Double Event” of January 8th, 2025, when Leatherback emerged from the Breach alongside Otachi in order to hunt down a human who had merged consciousnesses with a deceased kaiju, the Jaegers (enormous piloted mechs designed to combat the threat of the kaiju) Cherno Alpha, Crimson Typhoon and Striker Eureka were deployed to stop them.
Otachi quickly despatched Crimson Typhoon then crippled Cherno Alpha, before Leatherback finished the stricken Jaeger. Striker Eureka then engaged Otachi, but was itself disabled by an EMP blast from Leatherback, whereupon Otachi left the battle to hunt its human prey in Sydney.
However, unfortunately for Leatherback, the Jaeger Gipsy Danger was deployed to counter the threat, and after a lengthy battle across the docks of Sydney harbour, Gipsy was finally able to kill Leatherback by emptying the magazines of its plasma cannons at point-blank range into the outmatched beast.
