Lapras

Lapras is a Water/Ice-type Pokémon based on a plesiosaur. Once quite common in ancient times, it has been hunted to near-extinction and remains quite scarce in the modern era. This is largely due to its own docile, friendly nature.

Pokédex Data[]

Lapras is an ocean-dwelling Pokémon of large size, with an average length of 2.5 metres. Its body is covered in a brilliant-blue hide which is dotted in places with darker blue spots. Cream-coloured skin covers the underside of its body, stretching up the front of the neck to the lower jaw. It has two brown eyes, a pair of curling horns on its head, and a blunt, straight horn on its forehead. It propels itself through water with four flippers and a grey shell covered in blunt bumps adorns its back.

In the past, the population of Lapras was much higher. However, human hunters would take advantage of its gentle nature, leading to Lapras being killed off in large numbers. Modern conservation efforts have helped Lapras numbers pick up, but this has had the knock-on effect of other marine Pokémon species decline in some regions as there are now too many Lapras preying on them.

Lapras inhabit deep oceans, be they tropical or polar. Highly intelligent and communal, they travel in large pods and are known to communicate with each other in enchanting melodies. As previously mentioned, they are docile, gentle creatures and have been known to approach humans without caution. There have been various tales of human sailors becoming lost at sea only to be rescued by wild Lapras. Some claim that Lapras have even directly spoken to them via telepathy, though human science has yet to confirm if this is a trait all Lapras possess or just a select few specimens.

Abilities[]

While not normally aggressive, Lapras is still a powerful Pokémon with a number of extraordinary abilities.

  • Sing - Lapras lets out an enchanting melody that calms foes and can lull them to sleep.
  • Mist - Lapras summons a shroud of mist to obscure itself from sight and protect itself from status effects.
  • Life Dew - Lapras scatters magical drops of water that restore health to others.
  • Ice Shard - Lapras' breath freezes the water in the air in front of it, forming a shard of ice that is then launched at the opponent.
  • Confuse Ray - Lapras' horn projects a beam of psychic energy that leaves the target confused.
  • Brine - Lapras blasts an opponent with a torrent of salt water.
  • Surf - As it swims at high speed, Lapras generates a tremendous wave that comes crashing down upon all opponents.
  • Rain Dance - A mystical ability that causes clouds to form and rain down upon the battlefield, increasing the power of Lapras' Water moves.
  • Ice Beam - A ray of intense cold that causes high damage and can leave an opponent frozen solid.
  • Hydro Pump - Lapras expels a high-pressure blast of water to strike down enemies.

Gigantimax[]

Lapras-Gigantamax

In its Gigantamax form, Lapras becomes larger in size and more armoured. Its shell resembles a cruise ship or ocarina with four gray and red stripes surrounding it, and it has four spikes on top of its shell with one steel spike resembling a funnel, which has three red clouds surrounding it. The sclera in Lapras' eyes change colours to white, yellow, and blue. A light blue ring of fine thin lines resembling a musical sheet created from ice particles circles around its shell.

5,000 people can ride on the shell of Gigantamax Lapras for a very comfortable ride without any issues. Lapras can use its giant ring to break any icebergs that may prevent it from swimming. Gigantamax Lapras's shell is not part of its body as the shell has a logarithmic structure. Gigantamax Lapras is the only known Pokémon capable of using the exclusive G-Max move G-Max Resonance.
