Lament

The Lament is a creature encountered in Union during the events of The Evil Within 2. The exact method of this creature's creation and what it represents is unknown, but it appears to be a gruesome fusion of two mutilated female human bodies. The creature is unclothed and its body is a horrific mish-mash of misplaced parts, with twisted bones, vestigal hands and breasts clearly visible on the front and back. The monster's skin is stretched taut in places and bleeding wounds can be seen all over. The head of the creature is locked in a constant expression of agony, hence its name "Lament".

Behaviour[]

Laments can be found wandering around different parts of Union, painstakingly staggering about on their thin, bony legs. They have a greater field of perception than any other creature in the game, making it difficult to either evade them or sneak up on them. When a Lament spots the player, it lets out an ear-splitting screech, calling on nearby Lost to join it in attacking.

As the Lament hobbles toward the player, it will start throwing up large globs of acidic bile in the player's direction, which can cause significant damage. If it gets close enough to grab the player, it will perform an instant-kill by vomiting over Sebastian Castellanos' face, melting the flesh from his skull.

Combat[]

Distance is recommended when fighting Laments. They are slow-moving, so it is relatively simple to avoid being grabbed and instantly killed. The Sawed-off Shotgun is the most effective weapon to use against Laments early on in the game, though the Warden Crossbow and Rifle will be of better use later on. Trying to sneak up on a Lament for a stealth kill is extremely difficult, due both to their large health pools and their heightened perception.
