Klendathu is a barren, rocky planet in the Starship Troopers universe. This planet is the homeworld of the Arachnid race which make their hives deep beneath the planet's surface. While Klendathu appears largely yellow with moss-green patches from orbit, on the surface everything appears to be shaded in dark blue hues as though the planet is in a state of perpetual twilight.
Little is known about the Arachnid homeworld; its surface is barren with virtually no signs of life apart from a few Arachnid-built structures. Though some buildings exist on the surface, the majority of Arachnid society dwells underground in vast hive-cities that are networked together through a series of tunnels that reach all through the planet's mantle.
History[]
The Terran United Citizens Federation established a quarantine zone around the Klendathu System shortly after making first contact with the Bugs. However, a number of human settlements were illegally established within the quarantine zone and would eventually be attacked and destroyed by the highly territorial Bugs. As the Federation's reach expanded, they began to encroach upon Klendathu, sparking a pre-emptive strike by the Bugs who launched an attack upon the Earth city of Buenos Aires, Argentina, levelling the metropolis and killing 8.5 million humans. This act marked the beginning of the First Bug War and a retaliatory invasion of Klendathu by the Federation, an invasion that ended in abyssmal failure for the Mobile Infantry forces which were utterly slaughtered shortly after landing on the planet.
