The Kelpie of Loch Ness is a malevolent Kelpie that acts as the villain of the Scottish folk tale, "The Kelpie of Loch Ness", which is a radically different take on the Loch Ness Monster, created long before the cryptozoology craze and its transformation of Nessie into a dinosaur.

History[]

At some point in the early 19th century a particularly powerful and evil Kelpie haunted the forests near Loch Ness and like several of its kind had its own magical saddle and bridle that not only granted the demon great power but also kept it alive, without these items the Kelpie would die in less than twenty four hours.

For years the Kelpie terrorized the nearby area, drowning and killing people without mercy and so a Highlander by the name of James MacGrigor decided to rid the world of the monster, which he did by catching it by surprise and removing its saddle and bridle.

The Kelpie realized it would soon die and thus pursued MacGrigor to his home, mocking him when it saw a cross on his door and presuming he couldn't bring its saddle or bridle into his home, however he outsmarted the Kelpie by tossing them through his window instead.

Thus the Kelpie was defeated and flew into a rage, disappearing into the nearby forest where it was inevitably die.

The kelpie's saddle and bridle were said to be passed down by MacGrigor to others and held great magical powers, though in an ironic twist, the once demonic items seemed to gain holy properties of healing, likely due to MacGrigor's own faith (as with many such tales it also likely tried to symbolize Christianity's conquest over the pagan world).
