Kaijus are the titular main antagonists of the anime and manga series Kaiju No. 8. They are gigantic monsters that seek to destroy anything, from buildings to entire cities, and attack people over the world.
Description[]
Kaiju are colossal, monstrous creatures that vary greatly in size, shape, and appearance. Each kaiju is unique, with some possessing more humanoid features while others appear completely alien. At the core of every kaiju lies their vital organ, known as the Core (核, Kaku), which serves as both their life source and their greatest vulnerability. The location of the Core differs from one kaiju to another, as it adapts to the creature's specific anatomy, making each kaiju's weak point distinct and challenging to target.
Behavior[]
Most kaiju behave like typical wild beasts, driven primarily by instinct and the desire to consume others. These creatures generally lack higher intelligence, attacking anything in their path without a clear purpose beyond survival. However, there are rare instances where certain kaiju exhibit a more unusual behavior: instead of merely devouring humans, they seek to possess them. This behavior is driven by the kaiju's desire for a more compact and powerful host.
The only kaiju shown to display this rare trait is the enigmatic flying kaiju that possessed Kafka Hibino. Upon coming into contact with him, it transformed him into the entity known as Kaiju No. 8. This transformation allows Kafka to maintain his human consciousness while gaining the destructive power and physical abilities of the kaiju, marking him as a unique and powerful being in the world of kaiju.
Powers and abilities[]
All kaiju derive their abilities from a unique organ known as the Uni-organ (ユニ器官, Yuni-kikan), which houses the specific powers that define each kaiju. Although kaiju share a common origin as monstrous creatures, the nature of their Uni-organ makes each kaiju’s powers distinct. As a result, it is exceptionally rare to encounter two kaiju with similar abilities.
Common powers among kaiju include immense superhuman strength, the ability to proliferate and reproduce rapidly, and exceptional resilience, granting them great durability in combat. Some kaiju possess the ability to fly, adding to their terrifying presence and versatility. A select few, particularly the more complex and evolved kaiju, are capable of understanding and even speaking human language, making them all the more menacing as they can communicate and strategize, unlike the typical mindless beasts they are often thought to be. These kaiju demonstrate a level of intelligence that further sets them apart, making them particularly dangerous and unpredictable.
