Jynx is a dual-type Ice/Psychic Pokémon with a distinct human-like form. As such, it is known by the classification of the Human Shape Pokémon. It is catalogued as No. 124 in the National Pokédex, though its pre-evolved form, Smoochum, would be discovered later.

Jynx has an almost human-like shape, having an upright body with one head and two arms. The space where its legs ought to be is always hidden by the red gown it wears. However, there have been reports claiming that there is nothing but empty space beneath Jynx's skirt. Jynx has dark, purple-tinted skin and its head is topped with long blonde hair. It also has rounded white eyes and puffy pink lips. This species of Pokémon is all-female with no male counterpart.
Jynx is capable of vocal communication, but has its own distinct language that human scholars have yet to fully understand. Its preferred method of communication is to perform dance-like movements. Some human composers have been known to write music specifically for Jynx to dance along to and it is common for people to dance along with Jynx as well.
Jynx are known to reside in and around human habitats, though they are still fairly rare in the wild.

- Lovely Kiss - Jynx's signature move is to plant a magical kiss upon its opponent, immediately putting them to sleep.
- Copycat - Jynx mimics the movements of the opponent, performing the last attack used against it.
- Ice Punch - Jynx strikes the opponent while its hand is imbued with the power of ice. This attack has a chance of freezing the opponent.
- Psychic - Jynx attacks with a powerful blast of psychic energy.
