A Jikininki is a cannibalistic ghost in Japanese folklore that feeds exclusively on the dead.
They are the result of cursed humans who have engaged in cannibalism during life and thus transformed into these wretched beasts as punishment.
They have no pleasure in their actions and are forever plagued by an undying hunger.
Trapped between the world of the living and the dead, they only manifest during the hours of night and avoid human company, yet also stay close to human settlements in order to prey off the recently deceased.
