Jerso is a character from the Fullmetal Alchemist manga and 2009 anime series. He is a human chimera who worked for the Amestrian State Military, though he would later join forces with Edward Elric in his mission to save Amestris from Father. He is always seen alongside fellow chimera Zampano.
Appearance[]
In his human state, Jerso is a heavy-set black male with short eyes and dreadlocked hair. When he morphs into his chimera form, his body takes on clear amphibious traits, indicating that he was spliced with a frogfish. He remains quite muscular, though his body has more soft tissue that can absorb impacts. He has dull-green skin, no hair and small, polyp-like growths on his head.
History[]
Jerso was once an MP in the Amestrian military as well as a family man, having a wife and daughter. At some point, he was selected as a test subject in alchemic experiments to create a humanoid chimera that would retain its powers of speech and reasoning. The experiment was successful and Jerso gained various amphibious traits after being spliced with a frogfish.
After Solf J. Kimblee was released from prison to keep an eye on the Elric brothers, Jerso is one of four chimera who were assigned to act as the Crimson Alchemist's bodyguards. They travelled to Northern Amestris to the abandoned mining town of Baschool where he and Zampano encountered and fought against the Ishvalan vigilante Scar. The two chimerae managed to subdue Scar, but the Elric brothers intervened and knocked them out. Major Miles of the Briggs forces was prepared to execute the pair, but Alphonse convinced the Major to stand down and persuaded the two chimerae to join them on the promise that they could be returned to normal. Wanting to return to their families and not trusting Kimblee, Jerso and Zampano agreed.
Jerso and Zampano remained allies of the Elrics throughout the rest of their travels, aiding them in combating the Homunculi and saving Amestris from Father's scheme. In the series' epilogue, the pair decide to travel with Alphonse as his bodyguards while he explores the world and learns more about Xingese alkehestry in order to make Jerso and Zampano normal humans again.
