The Hive Beast is a gargantuan Swarm creature from the Gears of War video game series. It appears in Gears of War 4 as the game's final boss.
Biology[]
The Hive Beast somewhat resembles a Snatcher, though it is unknown if there is any pre-existing biological relation between them. Its origins are shrouded in mystery, so it is unclear if it is a naturally-occurring Hollow creature or something engineered by the Swarm.
The Hive Beast has a large body with four clawed legs, though it has only been observed with its forelegs appearing aboveground. Its body is covered in dense, armour-like chitin that cannot be penetrated via conventional weapons or tools. There are two gaps on each of its shoulders from which emerges a large tentacle. These tentacles can not only be used to whip and crush enemies but may also launch projectile quills similar to the tails of Pouncers. Finally, the Hive Beast's chest plate can open in order to fire Cankers.
Overview[]
The Hive Beast is an enormous creature that exists to defend its hive from hostile elements. Due to the sheer size of the creature, humans are incapable of fighting it without vehicular support. JD Fenix and Kait Diaz fought the Hive Beast at Tollen Dam using a pair of DB Industries Mega Mechs armed with industrial staple guns, tricking the monster into attacking by slamming its tentacles on the ground and then stapling the limbs one by one. The creature ended up severing its tentacles as it tried to pull them free.
After losing its tentacles, the Hive Beast resorted to attacking with barrages of Cankers, shooting down the King Raven helicopter that was supporting Kait and JD. Taking the rotor from the King Raven and using it as a shield, JD's Mega Mech got up close to the beast and used the rotor to cut off its forelegs and tear into its head, destroying its brain and killing it.
