Hell Soldiers are a common type of enemy in DOOM Eternal. They are based on the Possessed Soldiers from DOOM (2016) but their appearances have been redesigned to make them resemble the classic Zombieman enemies from the original DOOM.
According to the in-game codex, Hell Soldiers were originally human soldiers working for either the Union Aerospace Corporation or Armored Response Coalition. Placed on the front-line in defense of the Earth during the Hell Invasion, these infantry were exposed to massive waves of Argent energy as the portals opened and the demons poured through. Some died immediately while others were slaughtered by the invaders, the bodies that were left intact becoming reanimated by demonic energies. In the heat of battle, other soldiers would also be corrupted, turning on their allies unexpectedly.
Variants[]
Blaster[]
The Blaster variant is among the most common enemies in the game, especially in the earlier stages. They have buzzcut hair and wear grey armour and grey-green combat trousers. Their armour has been spoiled by bullet holes and blood spatter and they have various wounds across their bodies. They attack by using the plasma rifles fused to their right arms. They are relatively easy to kill with any weapon and take extra damage when struck in the head. When a Hell Soldier is dazed, the Doom Slayer may perform a Glory Kill by stabbing them through the lower jaw or cutting them in half.
Shield[]

The Shield variant of the Hell Soldier first appears in the third stage of DOOM Eternal. These enemies were once UAC security officers before succumbing to demonic influence. They wear grey-blue body armour, have no hair and are armed with triple-barreled shotguns fused to their right arms. Their left arms are fitted with a gauntlet that projects a hardlight riot shield, allowing them to absorb a certain amount of firepower before dissipating. The shield can be also be overloaded by the Doom Slayer's Plasma Rifle or Ballista, causing an explosion that will mulch the Soldier and cause damage to nearby enemies.
