Hell is the Christian imagining of an afterlife where souls whose amoral and wicked actions prevent them from ascending to Heaven are sent after death.

The concept of Hell is not exclusive to Christianity though, most religions and mythologies in the world have different versions of Hell.

Description

Traditionally portrayed as a fiery wasteland populated by demons who torture the souls of those who have perpetrated religious crimes, Hell is said to be the domain of not only demons, but those angels who were cast down after the War in Heaven. They are led by the fallen angel Lucifer.

According to some writings (begun with Dante’s Inferno), there are seven concentric circles of Hell, with the least wicked being outermost, and the most evil being the centre circle; however, these are not made reference to in religious texts, and are a product of recent fiction.
