In Resident Evil Village, Karl Heisenberg manages a factory located on the outskirts of Mother Miranda's isolated mountain village. From here, Heisenberg built up an army of bio-mechanical soldiers which he planned to use against Miranda.
History[]
The factory was built by the Heisenberg family at the time of the Industrial Revolution in the 19th century. Initially, the facility was a coal mine, but Karl Heisenberg would repurpose it when it fell under his ownership, turning it into a weapons research and manufacturing facility.
Heisenberg and his staff would use the factory to conduct Cadou research on the deceased. Through these experiments, they created new B.O.W.'s such as the Haulers and the Soldaten, using machinery to modify the creatures for specific purposes. The Haulers would become Heisenberg's slave labour force and were put to work on expanding the complex, while the Soldaten were intended to be used in combat. With an army of these cyborg monsters, Heisenberg hoped to kill Miranda, the leader of the village.
In 2021, Ethan Winters came to the village after Miranda had kidnapped his infant daughter Rose. After killing the other three Lords and obtaining all of the flasks containing Rose's crystallized body parts, Ethan used the Giant's Chalice to open a path to the factory where he would confront Heisenberg. After failing to convince Ethan to join him in his rebellion against Miranda, Heisenberg dropped Ethan into the factory's lower levels where he expected him to be killed by his experimental B.O.W., the Sturm. However, Ethan would best the Sturm and all other challenges waiting for him, blasting his way out of the factory with a special combat vehicle designed by Heisenberg. While Ethan fought the mutated Heisenberg in the courtyard, the factory was destroyed when Chris Redfield set off the explosives he had planted within the facility.
Structure[]
Heisenberg's factory appeared to be a giant storage facility and processing plant at first glance, but its true nature was literally hidden below the surface. Deep underground lay a complex of metal buildings situated over an underground river; here, Heisenberg's "willing" test subjects were sorted and sent to different processing areas to be implanted with the Cadou and augmented with cybernetics. Heisenberg also used the facility to do his own research and combat trials with his creations, assessing them for flaws to be corrected in future models.
The factory had several levels that were mostly traversed by large elevators. Several set pieces (including doors, turbines, and a generator) had red-glowing ports that had to be shot to proceed, similar to the weak points of Heisenberg's Soldat minions. One room contained a small casting machine that could be used to make a variety of items if the appropriate moulds were inserted; another room contained an elaborate Labyrinth puzzle that awarded the Bister Skull if completed. At the very bottom of the facility, there was a large garage where Heisenberg's Self-propelled Artillery was situated, along with a cargo elevator that went straight to ground level, emerging inside a building in the field outside the main factory.
