Heinkel is a character from the Fullmetal Alchemist manga and 2009 anime series. He is a human chimera who worked for the Amestrian State Military, though he would later join forces with Edward Elric in his mission to save Amestris from Father. He is most frequently seen alongside fellow chimera Darius.
Appearance[]
In human form, Heinkel is a tall, muscular man with Caucasian skin and slicked-back blonde hair. He also has a horseshoe moustache and wears glasses. In chimera form, he resembles a humanoid lion, with fur covering his whole body and sporting clawed digits on his hands and feet.
History[]
Heinkel was once a soldier in the Amestrian military who, at some point, was selected as a test subject in alchemic experiments to create a humanoid chimera that would retain its powers of speech and reasoning. The experiment was successful and Heinkel was combined with a lion.
After Solf J. Kimblee was released from prison to keep an eye on the Elric brothers, Heinkel was one of four chimera who were assigned to act as the Crimson Alchemist's bodyguards. They travelled to Northern Amestris to the abandoned mining town of Baschool where he and Heinkel encountered and fought against Edward Elric. During the fight, Kimblee used his alchemy to create a devastating explosion, causing a mining rig to collapse on Ed, Darius and Heinkel. Following the collapse, the two chimerae realised that Kimblee didn't care about them and considered them expendable. They helped the injured Edward get back on his feet and remain his allies from then on.
Darius and Heinkel assisted the Elrics throughout the rest of their travels, aiding them in combating the Homunculi and saving Amestris from Father's scheme. In the series' epilogue, the two chimerae decide that they are content with their forms and later join a travelling circus along with disgraced military officer Yoki.

- Claws - The claws on Heinkel's fingers and toes in lion form allow him to easily tear through flesh.
- Form Shifting - Heinkel can morph between human and chimera form at will.
- Enhanced Senses - Heinkel has strong animal instincts and a heightened sense of smell.
