The Hauler is a type of enemy creature that appears in Resident Evil Village. Appearing in Heisenberg's factory, they are created from Mold-infected human corpses that have been modified mechanically. Heisenberg uses Haulers as guards and basic slave drones.

Biology[]

A Hauler is a human corpse that has been reanimated by the Mold, much like the Moroaică. Unlike Moroaice, however, Haulers are exclusively male. They wear simple rags over their bodies and their craniums have mechanical headpieces bolted to them. The headgear stimulates the cerebellum, allowing the Hauler to perform whatever basic tasks Heisenberg programs them to do.

At first, Heisenberg created the Haulers without cranial implants. Without the headsets, however, the creatures were driven only by basic, destructive instinct and would attack anything and anyone relentlessly. With the addition of the headpieces, the Haulers could be programmed for basic tasks such as digging and moving equipment. Heisenberg would put the creatures to work in the mineshaft beneath the factory or have them patrolling the factory halls for intruders. Haulers carry makeshift axes made from scrap metal which they use both for mining and for attacking intruders.

Behaviour[]

Haulers behave according to how Heisenberg has programmed them, but they are only capable of basic tasks and cannot follow complex orders. They are found walking slowly through the corridors of the factory in a patrol pattern as well as in the mineshaft chipping away at the rock walls. If interrupted, they will advance on the source of the disturbance, swinging their axes to attack.

Combat[]

Haulers are slow, so they can be dodged fairly easily with sufficient space to maneuver. As undead humans, they are somewhat resistant to small arms, though handguns are usually enough to kill them. As with most human-based bioweapons, the head is their weakest point, though Haulers have some additional protection provided by their headsets. The headsets are not reinforced and can be destroyed with a few handgun shots or a single shot from other weapons. Like other Mold-based mutants, they crystallize and disintegrate upon death.
