Harbingers are a type of enemy creature from the survival-horror game, The Evil Within 2. Once normal people, they have since become deranged zealots bent to the maniacal will of Theodore Wallace.
Overview[]
The Harbinger is a humanoid creature that appears to be wearing a Christian pastor's vestments. Its face is obscured by what appears to be a gas mask that has no lenses and no means of seeing out of. The fabric of the mask is fused to the creature's head and the rebreather tubes connect to a canister on its back. The canister is a fuel supply for the Harbinger's flamethrower weapon.
Harbingers act as the enforcers of Father Theodore's will throughout Union. After Stefano Valentini is defeated, these creatures appear throughout the virtual town where they begin systematically slaughtering any Lost or uncorrupted people they come across. Much hardier than any Lost, they pose a significant threat at any range.
Combat[]
Harbingers are tough opponents and difficult to defeat at any range. Their movements are jerky and erratic and they constantly shoot jets of flame as they walk and turn, making it foolhardy to go anywhere near one. Harbingers make loud bellows as they move, so the player has ample warning of one's presence if they do not wish to engage.
For players who do wish to fight, Harbingers are highly resistant to most attacks. It takes a considerable amount of ammunition from any weapon to kill a Harbinger, and taking one out with a sneak kill is also difficult due to their flailing movements, making it more likely that one will spot the player before they get close enough and retaliate by either beating the player with the butt of the flamethrower or just spraying them with fire.
