Hammer Bros. are a distinct variety of Koopa from the Super Mario games. They can be clearly distinguished from Koopa Troopas by their helmets and their pronounced beaks. Appearing as early as Super Mario Bros. on the NES, Hammer Bros. are among the more dangerous members of the Koopa Troop. They are normally encountered in pairs and will attack Mario by throwing a seemingly limitless supply of hammers at him. Whilst attacking, Hammer Bros. will try to maintain their distance from Mario and will hop between platforms. after a while, though, they will move in to tackle him. there is a variety of Hammer bro that throws hammers while standing on a flying platform, and they are only seen in the SNES game Super Mario World. there are also varieties that throw fire, ice, or boomerangs as opposed to hammers.
