The Guadaña is a type of enemy that appears in both the original and remake versions of Resident Evil 4. It is a Plaga that has matured within a human host and emerged to control the body directly.

Biology[]

During nighttime, Ganados become more deadly as the Plagas within their bodies become more active. If severely injured, or reacting to a signal from an Illuminados cult leader, the Ganado's Plaga will emerge, destroying the host's head as it extends from the neck stump.

The Guadaña (Spanish for "scythe") is a relatively early stage in the Plaga life cycle. When it emerges from the host body, it appears as a pulsating mass of flesh sporting two bulbous yellow eyeballs and several worm-like tendrils. At the centre of this mass is a long, sinuous tentacle ending in a sharp, scythe-like blade of bone. As the Guadaña moves steadily towards its prey, its bladed tentacle will swing about wildly.

Combat[]

Guadañas will move steadily and purposefully towards the player, their tentacle-blades constantly twitching. As they get closer, the scythe-tentacle will swing about in an attempt to slash the player. If the player has low health when the Guadaña strikes, the player will be beheaded.

The Guadaña can be killed with any weapon, though only attacks to the parasite itself are effective and it will not react to attacks to the body. Since all Plagas are vulnerable to intense light, the Guadaña can be killed instantly by throwing a flash grenade.

Trivia[]

  • The Guadaña only received its name in the 2023 remake of Resident Evil 4. Prior to this, it was only known as "Plaga Type A".
