Grox are aliens which appear in Games Workshop’s Warhammer 40,000 universe.
Description[]
Large, horned, reptilian creatures resembling nothing so much as a wingless dragon, Grox are heavily- muscled, fast, and measure between fifteen and twenty feet in length when fully grown. They are foul-tempered and aggressive beasts, and will attack other animals many times their size given half a chance.
History[]
When Imperial explorators came across the existence of the Grox on a planet in the Solomon system, they at first dismissed them as nothing more than mindless animals to be catalogued and forgotten about. However, upon further examination it was discovered that Grox were capable of existing in virtually any environment and subsisting on almost anything they could scrounge up. This, coupled with the discovery that Grox meat was in fact a very palatable dish, led further expeditions to round up herds of these creatures and import them to other worlds across the Imperium of Man.
Of course, the dangerous nature of Grox has meant that it is usually necessary to either lobotomise or chemically sedate these creatures in order to successfully farm them, but this has not stopped Grox meat becoming one of the staple foodstuffs of the Imperium. It is unknown how many thousands of agri-worlds now sustain breeding herds of Grox which help to feed the million-plus worlds which comprise the human empire of the 41st millennium.
