Grimlocks are humanoid monsters from the roleplaying game Dungeons & Dragons. These creatures are believed to be descended from humans who had become lost to the Underdark, mutating over the centuries as they adapted to the underground environment.
Biology[]
Grimlocks come into the same size range as humans, but are generally more muscular. They have gray, slightly scaled skin, elongated nails on their hands and feet, sharp teeth and pointed ears. They wear little clothing or armour, usually only dressing in tattered skins from animals they have killed. Having spent so long in the Underdark, their eyes have either completely turned white or have receded and been covered over with skin.
Behaviour[]
Grimlocks operate in packs and are naturally suspicious of other creatures, which often leads to outright xenophobia. Though regarded as evil creatures, they rarely perform violent acts out of malice and tend to act aggressively out of self-preservation. Because they are so mistrustful of other species, they are rarely found in the thrall of others.
In combat, grimlocks tend to be uncoordinated. Since they are blind, they rely on smell and echolocation. As such, they will attempt to use the cover of darkness whenever possible to gain an advantage over an enemy.
Trivia[]
- Grimlocks are based on the Morlocks from the H.G. Wells' novel, The Time Machine.
