Grimer is a Poison-type Pokémon and No. 088 in the National Pokédex. Usually found in sewers, it thrives on the waste and pollution produced by human industry.

Grimer appears as as an amorphous mass of purple-gray ooze with two white eyes, a gaping mouth and two arms ending in three digits. Its body is composed of bacteria and toxic byproducts resulting from man-made pollution which is believed to have been given life by cosmic radiation carried on the light of the moon. It is commonly found in sewers and waste dumps where it feeds on garbage and toxic runoff. Since its entire being is made up of toxins, Grimer's touch can cause others to fall ill, instantly kill plant life and even render soil barren and infertile. Its toxic body constantly exhudes pungent fumes.
Having a fluidic body, Grimer is capable of travelling through confined spaces with ease and can sluice through grates and vents. It constantly oozes toxic fluids that will break off from its body as it travels. These blobs will eventually form into new Grimers.
Alolan Variant[]
The Alolan variant of Grimer is both a Poison- and a Dark-Type Pokémon. It was originally imported to Alola from Kanto as a solution to Alola's growing problem with waste management which led to a boom in the Trubbish and Garbodor population. Feeding on solid waste as opposed to sludge caused Grimer to change form, sporting a dirty green colouration with a bright yellow streak beneath its mouth. It also has two distinct teeth on its upper jaw formed from calcified toxins found in the trash it feeds on.
The Alolan variant of Grimer does not give off as strong an odour as its standard variant. This is due to it storing its toxins within its teeth rather than permeating its whole body, although its body is still dangerous to touch.
Abilities[]
- Pound - A simple melee attack in which Grimer will hit an opponent with its arms.
- Poison Gas - Grimer's body constantly gives off toxic fumes that are harmful to anyone who inhales them, slowly sapping the victim's health.
- Harden - Grimer's body calcifies and hardens, raising its defence.
- Sludge - Grimer flings toxic slime at its foes that can inflict moderate damage and poison the target.
- Bite - Since it has teeth, the Alolan Grimer is capable of inflicting damage with a harsh bite.
Evolution[]
As it consumes more toxic waste, Grimer's mass increases until it evolves into Muk. According to in-game mechanics, it evolves into Muk at Level 38.
