Goldar is a villainous character from the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers TV series. A proud warrior and a henchman to both Rita Repulsa and Lord Zedd, Goldar has frequently aided in his masters' attempts to conquer Earth and destroy the Power Rangers. Though always confident in his abilities, he has failed time and again to best the Rangers in battle.
Appearance[]
Goldar is a humanoid ape-like creature with dark blue skin and, as his name implies, adorns himself with ornate golden armour. He has also appeared with and without a pair of feathered wings upon his back that allow him to fly.
Personality[]
Early on in the series, Goldar was depicted as being at least semi-competent in the way he carried out his tasks for Rita. He was a confident fighter and occasionally proved himself capable of taking on the Power Rangers on his own. He developed a particular rivalry with Jason Lee Scott, the original Red Ranger, and had fought him in single combat many times. Of course, these battles usually ended with Jason victorious.
As time went on, Goldar became more grovelling and cowardly, eventually becoming little more than comic relief. When Rita's brother Rito Revolto arrived, Goldar and Rito would often bicker with each other, though they did seem to develop some semblance of friendship after a time.
Abilities[]
- Flight - Goldar uses the wings on his back to fly. He once had his wings magically removed by Rita, but Lord Zedd restored them when he took over Rita's operation.
- Swordplay - Goldar fights using a gold-coloured longsword. Though he possesses some clear skill in swordfighting, it is often hampered by his over-confidence. Goldar's sword can also fire energy blasts.
