Gargos

Gargos is a major antagonist from the video game series Killer Instinct. He is a demonic warlord who seeks to corrupt and conquer all worlds, setting his sights on Earth thousands of years ago.

History[]

Killer Instinct[]

While Gargos did not appear in the first game in his true form, he was able to manipulate the warrior Jago by posing as the Great Tiger Spirit, a deity whom Jago worshipped. Gargos bestowed a small portion of his power upon Jago and encouraged him to enter UltraTech's Killer Instinct tournament and battle the demon known as Eyedol, Gargos' ancient rival.

Following the will of the "Tiger Spirit", Jago entered Killer Instinct where he encountered his long-lost half-sister, Black Orchid. Together, Jago and Orchid confronted and defeated Eyedol, casting him back into his limbo-like prison. The siblings believed that they had spared the world a great threat, but in truth, they had only made it easier for Gargos to carry out his own conquest.

Killer Instinct 2[]

Gargos the Demon Lord

With Eyedol defeated, Gargos' greatest obstacle had been dealt with, but there were yet other enemies that he had to eliminate first. Having regained his immense power during the centuries he spent on the Astral Plane, he traveled back in time 2000 years to a time when humanity would be unprepared for him and would rever him as a god.

Having revealed his true nature to Jago, Gargos would not be entirely unopposed. Jago and a handful of other warriors would follow the demon back into the past in order to thwart his dark ambitions.

Killer Instinct (2013)[]

Gargos rules over the Astral Plane, a realm from which many other dimensions can be accessed. Long ago, Gargos fought against the other Astral beings that resided there, slaying them and taking their powers. Entities known as the Guardians would seal the Astral Plane as they fled from it, trapping Gargos there and preventing him from spreading his evil influence to other worlds.

Reaching out telepathically across time and space, Gargos contacted the sorcerer Kan-Ra and manipulated him into opening a portal between Earth and the Astral Plane. Gargos would then invade Earth with his army of shadow warriors known as Mimics, determined to corrupt and enslave humanity.

Appearance[]

In Killer Instinct 2, Gargos looked very much like a classic gargoyle; he had a muscular body with brown skin, four clawed digits on each hand and foot, pointed ears, yellow eyes, and bat-like wings extending from his back.

In Killer Instinct (2013), Gargos was given a more demonic appearance, appearing taller and sporting a pair of ram-like horns on his head. He had only two claws on each foot and five digits on his hands. His wings were also larger and appeared tattered, but were still flight-capable.

Powers and Abilities[]

  • Flight - By either his wings or via telekinesis, Gargos is capable of flying.
  • Telepathy - Gargos can corrupt and control the minds of weak-willed beings.
  • Fire Breath - Gargos can launch fireballs and streams of flame from his mouth.
  • Mimic Creation - Using his dark magic, Gargos can create evil duplicates of other characters to do his bidding.
  • Necromancy - Gargos has the power to revive the dead, as proven when he resurrected the skeletal pirate Spinal.
  • Superhuman Strength - Gargos possesses physical strength far greater than that of any human.
